The Band
The Lillian Pearl was formed in 2009 by longtime friends Greg Bunker, Maury McCown, Phillip Hintze, and Doug Rickaway. They decided the world needed another really good band, so they thought they'd come out of their respective retirements and give it the old college try.
The Lillian Pearl plays an eclectic mix of rock, hardcore rock, folk, pop, etc., featuring sounds like Stone Temple Pilots, Metallica, Soundgarden, Old Crow Medicine Show, Guster, Alice in Chains, Foo Fighters, Crowded House, and more. They also have their share of original tunes to throw into the mix — so keep your ears peeled.
And here's the band...
Greg plays drums and sings harmonies. He likes the Dave Matthews Band for some oddball reason, and he has a Dream Theater tattoo he'll try not to show you. We think he must have grown up listening to a lot of hippie music, but we’re glad he’s a huge Metallica fan nowadays. He also likes to eat bacon in dangerous quantities when not playing his Tama Starclassic set.
Maury plays the guitar and sings lead vocals. He grew up on classic rock, and likes Metallica and Rob Zombie way too much. He has a lot of Folk and Alt-Country in his iTunes library, too — but don’t let him know we told you. His main guitars are his '88 Les Paul and his Gibson acoustic. He plays everything through his Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier amp, and he really likes getting tattoos.
Phillip plays guitar and has a singing voice like a door buzzer (according to his sight-singing professor in college). He grew up listening to Jimi Hendrix and Cream, but is now into bands like Radiohead and Wilco with some 20th century classical thrown in for good measure. Phillip plays a PRS DGT, and uses a Fryette Sig:X amp to make it loud.
Doug's day job is playing classical upright bass and teaching kids how to play string instruments, but he also loves his arsenal of face-smashing gear: an Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray, and an Ampeg SVT Classic. He gravitates towards sounds that thump in your chest and scramble your brain like blast waves from large explosions. He also likes Metallica, Primus, Incubus, Green Day, and 311.
